Limbus Company: Walpurgis Night 8 Review

Finally, more gun units for my America team. Sorry, Shotgun Ryoshu. (Source: Project Moon)

The Long-Awaited Walpurgis Night Has Returned!

I’m not a gambler, at least not a real one. I like to hedge my bets and play it safely. With that in mind, I never, ever pull for anything in Limbus Company outside of that one Arknights collab. I mean, why pull when you can just shard? Obviously if you’re in the business of funding the Limbus anime more power to you, I just can’t help but think economically.

For those that are not aware or are new to Limbus Company, Walpurgis Night is a period of two weeks during which a special banner appears. The characters featured on this banner can only be pulled for during Walpurgis Night and cannot be obtained at any other time. They can be acquired or sharded on subsequent Walpurgis Nights; however it is important to note that the newest characters cannot be sharded on the same Walpurgis Night that they are released in.

The characters from Walpurgis Night are by and large really strong, or sometimes meta-defining in certain cases. For instance, Magic Bullet Outis raised the power level of burn teams tremendously and still upholds much of its power level. Dawn Office Sinclair is not a must nowadays but still is quite strong on burn teams as well. The Full Stop duo were doing incredible damage on their release, notably being poise units who can easily fuel their own poise conditionals with ease much like some of the Index units released more recently. With that in mind, I’d like to offer some of my thoughts on the two new characters and the E.G.O that were released on this banner.

The first I will go into is Lobotomy E.G.O::Faint Aroma & Solitude Ryoshu. The eggheads over on other communities can and will give you more in-depth reviews, but here’s mine. She’s really strong, but moreover very flexible. You’ll notice at a cursory glance that she features both sinking and tremor application, with tremor bursts. Sinking application, as well as tremor bursting, both grant her additional points onto her Petals resource. She has a separate resource, which is her ammo. Unlike REAP Ryoshu who dual wields but effectively functions as a single character, Faint Aroma & Solitude Ryoshu features the gameplay of two different characters in one. You’ll be emptying the cylinder of her revolver on an enemy and following up with her crossbow, and applying fair amounts of both sinking and tremor with both. When her revolver is empty, she’ll reload and perform her own followup attack. When she reaches 30 Petals, she’ll finish off with her S3-2, a veritable super attack with attack weight. With some proper setup, you can end up with her doing followup after followup off of herself. It’s quite fun to watch and the revolver animations feel great. She has good DPR and can be reliably run in either sinking or tremor (or a fusion!) teams where she will function healthily.

The second ID is Lobotomy E.G.O::Hornet [Alteration] Meursault. This is one that people were initially a little crestfallen about once his numbers came out due to his burn application being nothing too special compared to his predecessors. However, his strength lies in his attack weight. It’s nothing particularly stellar, but his S2 and S3 both have two attack weight baked in with next to no conditionals. His character is pretty straightforward–hit enemies to apply Spore, which applies a burn. Killing enemies with Spore stacks his passive buff, Loyalty Pheromone. Loyalty Pheromone gives a handful of different buffs with its level, but it also changes your standard coins on your S2 and S3 into unbreakables. With maximum stacks, both your S2 and S3 will be completely unbreakable. Spore also inflicts Bind, which is a little unique, and his evade will heal him for a flat amount, which is also not seen too frequently. If he runs out of either ammo type, he can spend SP to reload to full. Overall a fairly easy character to play and with fun and cool visuals.

Lastly is the new E.G.O, Harmony. While at first it looks like it would be a bleed E.G.O, it actually gains clash power for bleed and burn on the target. It then heals SP and goes into its damage, which features a reroll on heads not unlike that of Wingbeat or Solemn Lament. If you get lucky and roll all heads to get every coin reuse, the damage can be absurdly high, especially combined with the triple attack weight. This E.G.O is notably strong on Dawn Office Sinclair, another aforementioned burn ID from Walpurgis Night. Sinclair and that burn team will be applying plenty of Wrath and Lust resources to fuel Harmony, which is also notably expensive in terms of E.G.O resource cost. The E.G.O’s SP regen effect from its passive will be very good on Dawn Office Sinclair as his main gimmick involves staying in his transformed state for as long as possible which linearly loses more and more SP at the end of every turn.

Overall, I wouldn’t go as far as to say that these characters are “must-pulls.” Right now, with IDs running around like Mao Faust and Index Nursefather Yi Sang, these feel more like nice-to-haves than something clearly built for a team to be made around them. But still, they have guns, and gun characters in Limbus Company are rare and cool. You may have even seen that there is a new Mirror Dungeon E.G.O gift centered around how many ammo-users are on your team and bench. If building an America team like me interests you, let the slots spin and the dice roll. Best of luck to you. Glory to Limbus Company!
